Charlie is a social butterfly and a music lover. If you want to make his big blue eyes light up, all you have to do is get out an instrument or invite a little friend over to play. So, I thought that a classical music concert - for babies - would be a sure bet for one of our Wednesday afternoon adventures. And sure enough, it was.
The social organiser of my local mums and babies group bought some half price vouchers for the classical babies concert on Savvy Mummys (http://www.savvymummys.co.uk/) and was kind enough to give me one. A full priced ticket is £10 - which is twice as much as I'd normally pay for a baby event - though having now been, I can definitely say that it is well worth the money. The free coffee and desserts provided was just the icing on the cake.
The concert included three pieces - with a pianist and violins. The room was beautifully lit up with natural sunlight which shone in through the large sash windows. Chairs were lined up in rows providing proper concert seating for adults, with baby blankets laid down on the floor in front for the younger crowd.
During the concert, the children were incredibly well behaved. It was actually the adults who were told to be quiet! After the concert, the children played on the piano, while the other mums and dads and babies socialised.
The concert lasts about 40 minutes and takes place at 11:00 most Wednesdays at the Interchange Studios at Belsize Park. They are on holiday now, though, until the Wednesday after the Easter holiday. They also have concerts in Knightsbridge and Teddington. For more information, go to their website at: http://www.classicalbabies.com/www.classicalbabies.com/Home.html.
The Interchange Studios is just a short walk away from the Belsize Park tube station on the Northern Line in northwest London. There is a short flight of stairs to tackle with a pushchair, but then the lift will take you to the top, so it's relatively hassle free.
Hi, I'm the pianist who played in the concert you reviewed and also the organiser of Classical Babies in west London.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your lovely summary of the concert. We all had a great time performing to such an appreciative audience, and hope to meet you at future concerts.
Bear with us regarding the website. It's being redesigned and updated, and will be live in the next few weeks (by the start of May hopefully!) Please 'like' our Classical Babies page and let us know who you are at future concerts so we can say a personal 'thank you'!
